But with a number of exciting things just around the corner and on the back of two weeks stuffing myself silly in Florida, the first day in September seemed a great opportunity to kick myself back into shape.
The plan is to ramp up my physical activity and the dogs are once again excited at the promise of long walks every day (except the pug who isn't welcome). But I am hoping to go beyond the extended dog ramble and so I am recruiting my little sister Clare, a personal trainer and someone of whom I am genuinely fearful of to show me no mercy.
I want to work on my cardio and toning, but also, sick of the sight of having to wipe the dribble from the missus's chin every time Chris Hemsworth comes on the tele, am hoping to bring the gun show back to town. That means the Bulgarian bag and the press ups (and maybe making use of my gym membership a little more frequently) are also going to have to become regular fixtures.
I am also finally over the humiliation of being overtaken by a pram pushing woman and her pet dalmatian on the couple of park runs I participated in at the beginning of the year and will, time permitting, be joining my mates on that every Saturday morning.
The other areas besides physical activity that I will be focusing on are improving how and what I eat and educating myself more nutritionally as well as increasing the number of healthy emotional exercises I do on a daily basis.
I am lucky to be able to call upon fellow hypnotherapist and thirteen time world champion Gary 'Smiler' Turner for my nutritional advice too. His knowledge of nutrition and achieving peak performance are as impressive as his sporting achievements and I look forward to adjusting my food intake under his guidance.
I do practice a number of healthy mental exercises such as daily focusing on areas to be grateful and looking for inspiration and positives in different places every day, but because I am generally quite happy, I've let the self hypnosis slip a little. Therefore I intend to spend a few moments everyday revisiting the benefits of auto-suggestion and self hypnosis. I even ordered a hippy bracelet with twenty beads that will help me count my twenty affirmations I intend to use every morning and evening, though looking down at it on my wrist as a I type, I'm beginning to think it may encourage the wrong type of attention...
So there you have it. I jumped on the scales this morning and as you can see from the picture below* the starting weight is just under sixteen and a half stone with a target of between fifteen to fifteen and a half and an emphasis on fat reduction.

*PS - I am well aware that the more perceptive of you, especially the ladies, would have noted the size and notably the girth of my feet in the above photo. I can assure you that the photo has not be tampered with so its up to you to decide if the rumours of bodily correlation are true.
You're welcome.
